    A STUDY ON PERCEPTIONS OF FACULTY MEMBERS ON INFORAMATION SOURCES OF LIBRARIES OF ENGINEERING COLLEGES AFFILIATED TO JNTU-ANANTAPUR, ANDHRA PRADESH, INDIA

    Analysis of data collected from a simple random sample of 1130 faculty members belonging to 37 Engineering colleges affiliated to JNTU-Anantapur using a questionnaire, reveals that most of the faculty members are using textbooks (97.3%), and Internet (85.7%) for their teaching activity. Further, most of the faculty members are using e-journals (80.1%) and Internet (79.0%) for their research activity. Most of the faculty members are satisfied with latest editions of books available (79.8%) and with the multiple copies available for prescribed textbooks in their libraries (75.02%). Most of them (77.3%) are consulting periodicals for their teaching and research work. Most of them (78.1%) are satisfied with the present collection of periodicals. Nearly half of them (51.3%) are consulting indexing and abstracting periodicals to know the latest literature for their teaching and research needs. Most of them (77.2%) replied that the latest issues of periodicals are available in their libraries concerned. Majority of the faculty members replied that current issues of periodicals (68.8%) and the back volumes of periodicals (60.5%) are not issued for home reading. Most of them (81.8%) replied that their libraries are subscribing to e-journals. Majority of them (53.7%) replied that their libraries are not subscribing to e-books. A few recommendations have been made by the researchers on the basis of findings

    Semiconductor devices have rapidly advanced over the past years increasing switching(on and off) speed and density of the device, causing an increase in power consumption and power dissipation; accordingly, the issues have been considered and improved . In CMOS 0.5ÎŒm process, the designed VLSI mirror-amplifier had power dissipation of 8.41 milliwatts. This technique is changed in this paper. The biasing is done in two steps proved to be correct procedure to improve overall power consumption. Source voltage was considered as 3V for the MOSIS process technology. Layout ,simulation and electrical characterization of the design were carried out by MENTOR GRAPHICS tool and CAD tools were used for the design Holding the scaling and process unchanged at 0.5ÎŒm as the previous design, the new VLSI design had power dissipation of 4.39 nanowatts in second step by reducing the dynamic loss. Multi-die chip placement is done for fabrication. More advanced 0.35um CMOS process is used for low threshold voltage and enhanced supply voltage range.     Attitude about mental illness of health care providers and community leaders in rural Haryana, North India

    Background: Attitude about mental illness determines health seeking of the people. Success of National Mental Health Programme (NMHP) is dependent on attitude about mental illness of various stakeholders in the programme. Material & Methods: A community based cross-sectional study was carried out in Ballabgarh block of Faridabad district in Haryana. We aimed to study attitude about mental illness of various stakeholders of health care providers (HCP), community leaders in rural area of Haryana, north India. Study area consisting of five Primary Health Centers (PHCs) serving 2,12,000 rural population. All HCP working at PHCs, Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) and community leaders in study area were approached for participation. Hindi version of Opinion about Mental illness Scale for Chinese Community (OMICC) was used to study attitude. Results: In total, 467 participants were participated in the study. Of which, HCP, ASHAs and community leaders were 81 (17.4%), 145 (31.0%) and 241 (51.6%) respectively. Community members reported socially restrictive, pessimistic and stereotyping attitude towards mentally ill person. ASHA and HCP reported stereotyping attitude about person with mental illness. None of the stakeholders reported stigmatizing attitude. Conclusion: Training programme focusing on spectrum of mental illness for HCP and ASHA working in rural area under NMHP programme is needed. Awareness generation of community leaders about bio-medical concept of mental illness is cornerstone of NMHP success in India

    STANDARDIZATION IN VITRO ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY AND BRINE SHRIMP LETHALITY OF A POLYHERBAL FORMULATION

    Shakti drops an Ayurvedic polyherbal formulation is an effective medicine for immuno modulatory activity. The formulation was prepared in the laboratory with authenticated organic plant drugs. The standardization procedure was conducted on the basis of physicochemical parameters and antimicrobial studies as directed by Ayurvedic formulary of India. Antioxidant activity is further performed based on its prescribed dose in three In-vitro antioxidant models. Physical characters remained unaltered throughout study, In antimicrobial activity total aerobic count was found to be 18×101 CFU/mL and total fungal count was found to be <10 CFU/mL. It is devoid of all tested microorganism i.e. Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli tested. In antioxidant activity the results of the study suggest that the Shiakti drops has potent antioxidant and free radical scavenging activity justifying its use in Rasayana

    Synthesis, characterization and DNA cleavage activity of nickel(II) adducts with aromatic heterocyclic bases

    Mixed ligand complexes of nickel(II) with 2,4-dihydroxyaceto-phenone oxime (DAPO) and 2,4-dihydroxybenzophenone oxime (DBPO) as primary ligands, and pyridine (Py) and imidazole (Im) as secondary ligands were synthesized and characterized by molar conductivity, magnetic moments measurements, as well as by electronic, IR, and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. Electrochemical studies were performed by cyclic voltammetry. The active signals are assignable to the NiIII/II and NiII/I redox couples. The binding interactions between the metal complexes and calf thymus DNA were investigated by absorption and thermal denaturation. The cleavage activity of the complexes was determined using double-stranded pBR322 circular plasmid DNA by gel electrophoresis. All complexes showed increased nuclease activity in the presence of the oxidant H2O2. The nuclease activities of mixed ligand complexes were compared with those of the parent copper(II) complexes

One of the phosphoryl O atoms is in an equatorial configuation while the other is axial with respect to the oxaza­phosphinine ring. The mean planes of the benzene ring to which the nitro group is attached and the phenyl ring form a dihedral angle of 83.5 (1)°.     Salvia ceratophylla L. from South of Jordan: new insights on chemical composition and biological activities

    © 2020, The Author(s). In Jordan, Salvia ceratophylla L. is traditionally used in the treatment of cancer, microbial infections, and urinary disorders. This study aimed: (1) to chemically characterize S. ceratophylla essential oil (EO) from South Jordan, by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC–MS); and (2) to evaluate in vitro the cytotoxic, anti-inflammatory, and antiprotozoal activities of the EO, it’s predominant components, and the hexane (A), ethyl acetate (B), methanol (C) and crude-methanol extracts (D). The analysis revealed that the EO has 71 compounds, with linalool (54.8%) as main constituent. Only the hexane extract (A) showed some cytotoxic activity against SK-MEL, KB, BT-549, SK-OV-3, LLC-PK1 and VERO cells lines with IC50 between 60 and \u3e 100 ”g/mL. The EO inhibited NO production (IC50 90 ”g/mL) and NF-ÎșB activity (IC50 38 ”g/mL). The extracts A, B, and D inhibited NO production and NF- ÎșB activity with IC50 between 32 and 150 ”g/mL. Linalool considerably inhibited NO production (IC50 18 ”g/mL). The extracts tested did not exhibit antileishmanial activity. Regarding antitrypanosomal activity, the EO exhibited significant results with IC50 2.65 ”g/mL. In conclusion, Jordan S. ceratophylla EO represents a rich source of linalool and bears a promising therapeutic potential for further antitrypanosomal drug development
